An accelerated urban water supply scheme was inaugurated yersterday at Sugnu by PHE Minister TN Haokip, informed a DIPR release.
The inaugural function was presided by PDA Chairman K Ranjit.
Speaking on the occasion, TN Haokip exhorted the local bodies and panchayats to keep strict vigil on the operation of the water supply plant so that its benefits are available to people.
He also asked people to prevent excabation of river beds and hill slopes for stones and sand so as to preserve ecological balance.
K Ranjit assured that black topping of roads in Sugnu A/C would be taken up soon.
But no new projects would be initiated as the election code of conduct has come into force.
The water supply plant was constructed at the cost of Rs 52.04 lakhs having capacity 0.78 million litres.
On the way back, TN Haokip inaugurated a vegetable market shed at Waikhong.
