Imphal, January 05:
In association with various organisation and Meira Paibi groups, the UCM has launched its Punna Hingminnaba, Punna Chaokhatminnaba (co-existence, equitable development) Campaign at Chanung in Imphal East district today.
Speaking at the inaugural function of the campaign at Chanung Nongpok Ningthou ground, UCM president K Langamba noted that adoption of different religions in the later stages of the history of Manipur seemed to have created division among the ethnic group of the State which have been living together in harmony since two millennia.
But no religion advocates violence or hatred but peace and love, he said "As such we need not snap the bond of love among the indigenous people of the State even though we have different culture and embraced different religions", Langamba said.
Exhorting that it's time to remove all sorts of misunderstandings among the indigenous through proper and frank communication, the UCM president expressed surprise over the designs of some elements aimed at fragmenting the Manipuri society which is well aware of the current trend of globalisation.
Until and unless all universal human rights are ensured to the people of Manipur, the society can never be termed a developed one, he observed while calling upon the people to urge upon relevant authorities for their due rights.
Just as it is said that no society can make progress when there is no peace, Langamba observed that peace seems to have lost its meaning in the Manipuri society.
Under such a situation, all the people of the State need to unite together and live in harmony, he noted.
At the programme attended by people of different ethnic groups, cultural programmes and traditional dances were presented by volunteers and artistes of S Phailenkot Youth Club, L Chayang Youth Club and Chingdai Area Cultural Troupe.
Langamba also presented a plastic water tank, footballs and volleyballs to Sadar Hills East Haokip Youth Organisation.
