Imphal, January 05:
An alleged threat from a banned outfit in connection with serving demand has spawned fear and panic in the Jawaharlal Navodaya Vidyalaya, Khumbong administration as well as the students consequently resulting in the guardians taking custody of their children.
Following an intimation from the JNV authorities, parents and guardians of the students rushed to the institution and took away their children today.
The scene that unfolded at the Vidyalaya premises this morning was reminescent of a gravely disturbed environment and clearly reflected anxiety and uncertainty on the parents' faces who were seen hurrying off their wards for their safety.
According to information received by the press, students/boarders of JNV contacted their parents to arrive as soon as possible and take them away from the institution.
An emergency meeting of the parents was also convened during which speakers quoted JNV authorities as saying that a UG group had served an ultimatum to hand over Rs 3.5 lakh today.
the actual demand amount served to JNV is said to be Rs 10 lakh which came down to Rs 7 lakh.
The meeting took serious note of disruptive elements not sparing even educational institution and the fact that restlessness caused to teachers would only impede academic interest of the students.
Apart from appealing to the group concerned to refrain from insistence on the monetary demands the meeting stumbled in reaching a consensus thereby resulting in the parents preferring safety of home for their children.
Even as the meeting was on many parents/guardians continued to trickle in to the Vidyalaya complex and by afternoon the institution resembled a deserted look as all the 500 students were escorted to their respective homes.
Prior to leaving the campus, the students had staged a protest session against the UG threat to pay off or face undesired consequences during which the parents were also discussing the matter.
The students put up placards/banners urging to all concerned to ensure education is pursued in a free and safe environment and to save their careers.
