A two day seminar cum trade fair organised by the Romi Bag Industries under the theme "Development of Entrepreneurship and Promotion of Trade in Leather Footwear, Leather Goods and Allied Industries" was opened today at GM Hall.
The opening function of the seminar cum trade fair was attended by Minister of Commerce and Industries Y Erabot, Principal Secretary PC Lawmkunga and Director Dhiraj Yumnam as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Speaking on the occasion, Y Erabot iterated that industries is the economic backbone of a State.
He said that industrial products can be made to reflect the culture and tradition of the State.
Acknowledging that the State Government is unable to take up any industry successfully despite the presence of the Commerce and Industries Department, Erabot hailed the private enterprise of Romi Bag Industries for its achievements.
Disclosing that the Panthoibi Emporium at Delhi with its building in dilapidated condition is unable to market state products properly, he said adding that necessary efforts will be put in to develop the emporium soon.
Highlighting the importance of effective coordination between different Departments for development of industries, Erabot cited that in order to develop and sustain kouna industries, kouna should be cultivated in coordination with other Departments concerned.
Besides leather products like bags, shoes and ornamental goods various handicraft items are also being exhibited in the fair.
