Imphal, November 16:
Prominent social and student organizations of the State have come out strongly against the assault on rail passengers from the North Eastern States in various parts of Bihar.
Manipur Peace and Integrity (MAPI) Council, in a memorandum submitted to Indian Prime Minister, condemned the ugliest incident and has urged the PM to ensure the non-recurrence of such incident.
The Hindustani Samaj, Imphal, on the other hand, while flaying what it described as the rowdyism and goondaism of the Biharis also demanded the perpetrators be accorded appropriate punishment.
Meanwhile, All Tribal Students' Union, Manipur (ATSUM), Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF) and Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM), in a joint press statement, held Railways Minister Nitish Kumar responsible for the incident and demanded the resignation on moral ground.
The students' bodies also maintained that the Biharis have dared to attack the North Eastern people as the region has been kept politically, economically and socially backward by the Indian Government.
