Taking serious note of the developments in Bihar wherein trains carrying passengers from the North Eastern States have been targeted, the United Committee Manipur today convened a meeting with representatives of domicile Marwaris and Biharis at the construction committee office of the UCM at Kangla.
The meeting which was attended by a large number of domicile Marwaris and Biharis of Manipur thoroughly discussed the situation and resolved to unanimously condemn the unwanted incidents and attack on the people of North Eastern States including students from Manipur on November 12 that took place in Jamalpur near Ratanpur, Katihar and Kishan Ganj.
The meeting noted that the attacks were nothing but acts of brutalities, and goondaism perpetrated on the people of North East.
The meeting also resolved to urge the Prime Minister, Union Home Minister, Union Railways Minister and the Chief Ministers of Manipur and Bihar and other authority concerned to book the culprits involved in the attack and to take necessary action so that such incidents do not recur in the future.
UCM and the representatives of domicile Marwaris and Biharis also resolved to appeal to all civil societies of Manipur to preserve and ensure the peaceful co-existence of all the communities residing in Manipur.
Meanwhile a number of student bodies of the North East in Delhi including the Manipur Students' Association, Delhi, All Bodo Students' Union, Delhi, All Assamese Students' Union, Naga Students' Union, Delhi and some seniors held a meeting to discuss the outrage committed by the hoodlums in Bihar.
In a signed statement, 16 students from the North East attested that women were sexually molested and some were even paraded naked while the security personnel just looked on and refused to intervene.
