Former Lok Sabha MP Kim Gangte has today called for the empowerment and upliftment of the Nepali women if the Nepali community is to enjoy the fruits of development.
Speaking a public meeting at Parshian area in Sadar Hills, the former Lok Sabha MP said that the development and emancipation of the Nepali community in Manipur is a requisite for the over all development of the State.
To attain that, education and empowerment of the Nepali women is an indispensable criteria, noted the former MP and expressed regret that in the Parshian area which comes under nine Assembly wards, not a single Nepali women have finished their post graduation with only a few handful having finished their graduation level.
Kim Gangte also spoke on the need for greater assimilation of the Nepali people with other communities adding that Nepalis who have been residing here since the times for their fore fathers can be deemed to be Manipuris.
True to the spirit of the meeting which was held under theme, Women Empowerment and Gender Equality, Kim Gangte said if women are subdued there is no scope for any community or society to progress and called upon the Nepali community to look into this point.
All the women folk and men gathered at the meeting agreed with the points raised by the former MP with the men coming forward and pledging that they will support any endeavors taken up to educate and empower the women.
The men folk also agreed to extend all possible co-operation and encouragement to give enough room for development to the women folk.
