Tension ran high in Patsoi area after locals protested against the arrest a person, claimed to be innocent, by the Assam Rifles and detaining him in police custody.
Representatives of Meira Paibis of the area also demanded to know reason for the arrest of the said innocent person and warned of launching agitation if the arrested person is not released by tomorrow.
Talking to mediapersons, the aggrieved locals informed that Thiyam Thembi alias Ajit (28) of Patsoi Part-III was picked from his house on the intervening night of March 20 and 21 by Assam Rifles personnel attached with Patsoi Police Station.
However, Thembi was handed over to Patsoi Police Station charging him to be a cadre of the Fighting Group of the proscribed KYKL and he was arrested along with two live bullets of AK-56 rifles from his possession.
Since then he has been lodged in the custody of Patsoi police.
representatives of local club and Meira Paibis informed that Thembi is a responsible person of his family who since his early days works in a brick field to supplement the income of the family.
He is now married and two kids.
Charges levelled against him cannot be accepted, they said while appealing to all organisation concerned to come out with a clarification on this matter at the earliest possible.
Thiyam Ongbi Sanajaobi, mother of Thembi informed that among the Assam Rifles personnel who came to arrest Thembi there was one policeman in uniform.
Thembi was sleeping in the bed with his children when the AR personnel called him out for having some talks.
They did not search nor seized anything from the house.
The charges that my son belongs to an underground organisation and ammunition have been seized from his possession are cooked up, Thembi's mother said.
Representatives of Patsoi Part-II Mahila Samiti and All Manipur Youth Protection Committee, Patsoi part-III were also present during the meeting with mediapersons.
