He observed that the Nupi Lan has inspired today's liberation struggle to a great extent.
The PLA chief said that despite several drawbacks and deficiencies, the Manipuri Nation can stand to this day because of the unyielding and valiant stand of the Imas against the colonial forces.
Even though the unarmed movement launched by women was basically against man-made food grain scarcity, it was seen as a historical event with far reaching consequences in determining the future of the Manipuri Nation, Ngouba noted.
Saying that Manipuri women never sit back at crucial moments of the Nation , he acknowledged the great sacrifice and indomitable spirit of the Imas in the present generation.
Regardless of the hills and valley, the Imas have been enduring all kinds of hardships day and night with the noble motive of saving the Nation.
Giving a detailed account of the circumstances leading to the Nupi Lan, G Jame, ACAS, PLA, saluted the courage and spirit of the Imas who successfully fought back and defeated the policy of the colonial rulers to suppress the Nation.
Recalling the misfortunes faced by Manipur after the British rulers left the State, he deliberated on the responsibilities of the PLA to realise the aspirations of an independent Manipur.
Jame also pointed out the contrast between the timid, unqualified 'enemy forces' and the PLA.
Asserting that ensuring a happy, secured and free life to the colonised people is not included in the law of the colonial rulers, he stated that the only way to do away with such ills and misfortunes is to fight for a sovereign nation.
Jame reiterated that PLA would fight for a free motherland without any reservation and let up.
The observation was marked by paying of floral tributes to the martyred Imas of Nupi Lan and two minutes' silence in their honour.
