A rickshaw driver sustained injuries when a Chinese-made hand grenade exploded near an electric transformer at Kwakeithel Bazar at around 1.55 pm today.
The transformer was extensively damaged in the explosion.
According to information received by the press, the explosion occurred soon after three vehicles of BSF passed the area.
The rickshaw driver identified as Usham Thadoi (30) s/o Pitamber of Kumbi Terakhong Maning Leikai but presently staying at a rented room at Kwakeithel Akham Leikai, was taking rest on his rickshaw when the explosion took place hitting him with bomb splinters.
He suffered injuries on his left shoulder and on the posterior.
His right thigh has been rendered immobile due to the impact of the explosion.
He has been admitted to RIMS Hospital for treatment where doctors attending on him said he is out of danger.
However, according to police source, the grenade might have been lobbed by suspected underground activists at the BSF vehicles but missed the target.
The transformer has been damaged in the explosion and it would not be able to function without repairing.
