In the backdrop of all the schemes instituted by the Government for welfare of widows, a meeting organised by the Chandel Network of Positive People at Chandel today has recommended reservation of certain percentage for HIV positive widows.
The meeting organised in conjunction with the observation of fortnight against violence on women also adopted several resolutions.
To appoint nodal advisor for HIV positive people particularly for HIV positive widows was one of the recommendations.
It also decided to organise social awareness pro- grammes in all the villages of Chandel district under the District AIDS Control Society.
It further decided to provide family counselling on HIV/AIDS in Chandel district specially to mothers- in-law and fathers-in-law in association with the Manipur Network of Positive People.
The meeting began yesterday under the theme �Health For Women For The Health Of The World�.
The observation against violence on women was aimed at highlighting the added discrimination and violence endured by HIV positive women as compared to other women.
To urge the Social Welfare Department to establish a short stay home in Chandel district was another recommendation adopted during the meeting.
Educating HIV positive women about the right entitled to them, identification of the issues faced by such women and formulation of an action plan in collaboration with all groups concerned and analysis of people's per-ception and State's response towards the issues of women and children afflicted by HIV are the main objectives of the fortnight observation.
