New Delhi, November 08:
The long delayed women's reservation Bill is unlikely to be introduced in the current session of Parliament as also the contentious Bills on the Pensions, Banking and Factory Act.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister P R Dasmunsi gave a clear indication to this effect at a press conference here.
He said that the OBC quota Bill and the Tribal Bill would come up for consideration in Parliament next week.
Dasmunsi said that the last two days of the current session December 18 and 19 are being reserved for a possible discussion on the Indo-US nuclear deal if by that time the accord gets final approval.
He said most political parties have made a request in this regard.
"Banking, pension and factory act Bills...
I do not find it possible can be taken up this session though hectic parleys are on (with the Left parties)," the Minister said.
On the Women's Bill, he said "I am not very confident that a tangible result (to reach unanimity will be achieved) though efforts are on.
If there is some development before the departure of the Prime Minister on foreign tour or after his arrival, we will see what can be done." He said the Prime Minister has not been able to consult various political parties on the issue due to his busy schedule.
The government, he added, wanted it to be introduced in a manner that yields desired results.
Asked whether the government's move to include the creamy layer in the OBC quota bill would be struck down by the Supreme Court, which has spoken in favour of exclusion of the section, he said the legislation was passed unanimously by the Cabinet.
"If there is no milk from where will the cream come from?," he remarked.
