Imphal, November 04 2009:
Over the demand of removing Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Autonomous District Council, Chandel S Wurngam Anal from his post, the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of Kuki Chiefs' Association (KCA), Thadou Students' Association (TSA) and Thadou Tribe Union (TTU) has jointly called a 24-hour general strike in Chandel district with effect from midnight of November 8 .
Announcing this during a press conference at Manipur Press Club here this afternoon, JAC convenor and president of KCA Nehthang Haokip charged S Wurngam Anal as communal minded and dishonest person against whom the State Vigilance Department has been investigating on use of fake certificates at the time of his appointment and said such a person is not fit to hold the post of CEO.
Haokip demanded that Wurngam should be removed from the post immediately and appoint a non-tribal in his place.
Furthermore, Nehthang said out of the 46 schools located in areas of Thadou-Kuki dialect speaking communities of the district, functioning of 15 of them have been completely paralysed due to lack of teachers.
Out of the total requirement of 281 teachers in these schools, at present there are only 41 teachers.
This is due to the discriminatory attitude of appointing only 21 teachers from among the Thadou-Kuki dialect speaking communities at the time of recruiting 245 teachers in between 1993 to 2006.Taking into account of the past experience, we have been insisting on the free and fair conduct during the recent recruitment of primary teachers under the Autonomous District Council, Nehthang Haokip said.
Co-convenor of the JAC and general secretary of TSA, Chandel district Jamkhomang Haokip, who was also present during the press conference, alleged that CEO S Wurngam misuses his power in allowing some of the candidates to appear in the written test of the recruitment.
These candidates have been allotted roll numbers from 1 to 200 and their written test had been conducted separately, Jamkhomang Haokip said, and demanded that these candidates should not be allowed to sit for the viva voce.
In case the Government and its related authorities fail to give not only a positive response to these demands but also implement them by November 7, the JAC would call a 24-hour general strike in whole of Chandel district with effect from midnight of November 8, Jamkhomang Haokip said, adding that the JAC is also prepared to launch an indefinite Chakka bandh in the district as a follow up.
