The experiment on breeding of indigenous Sareng (Wallago Attu) of the state fisheries department to close to success.
Once the experiment succeeds, stoke of the fish, one of favourite local delicacies on the verge of extinction in the state is likely replenish.
Sareng is among the indigenous fishes of the state which included in list of fishes on the verge of extinction, said an official of the state fisheries department.
The fish is rarely available in the last two/three year.
Artificially breeded Sareng in the department is under research stage for the time being.
The fish is now two to three inches long.
But a critical point in rearing this kind of fish is that they eat each other.
They have to rear separately.
Around 2000 sareng are rearing in the ponds of the department.
These fishes will fully growth in the next two to three years and will be fit for consumption.
The department has started taking up steps to rear this fish to the ponds of the fish farmers.
Another matter of concern is that fish farmers of the state wanted to rear fish which are easy to rear.
They are more interested in rearing grass calf which is easy and can earn income easily.
