Lamka, March 09 2009: Along with formation of a co-ordinating committee of the Third Front called �Left and Democratic Co-ordinating Committee for Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency', JD (S), CPI, CPI-M, RSP and Forward Bloc have decided to work jointly for ensuring the success of the CPI candidate Dr M Nara in the ensuing Lok Sabha election.

Addressing a press conference along with leaders of the five political parties at Irabot Bhavan here today, Health and Family Welfare Minister Ph Parijat, who is also the National Executive member of CPI, observed that with factionalism and dissension mounting among the partners of the Congress led UPA and BJP led NDA over the Lok Sabha election, the third front led by the Left party has been endowed with more leverage.

Maintaining that failure of the UPA Government in its foreign policy and communalism of the NDA has led to wide spread discontentment among their respective partners, Parijat said that the co-ordinating committee of the Third Front has been formed to ensure the success of the CPI candidate in the Inner Parliamentary Constituency.

Parijat explained that though the Congress and the CPI are partners of the ruling SPF Government in the State, there is no electoral alliance between the two.

So in the past elections, the two parties have fought against each other.

In the ensuing Lok Sabha election too, the co-ordinating committee will fight against the Congress at the National level.

Stating that for the Outer Parliamentary Constituency the third front led by CPI would extend its support to the party which is not backed by NSCN (IM), Parijat assured that the name of the party to be supported would be announced in th next four-five days.

The CPI candidate for the Inner Parliamentary Constituency Dr Nara who was also present during the press conference said he was grateful that the five political parties have chosen him as their common candidate inspite of being a CPI nominee.

The support of the five political parties along with formation of a joint co-ordinating committee is like a green signal for electing to the Parliament, he said, while pledging to work with understanding the pulse of the people in the State towards realising their aspiration for a major developmental change in the society.

Born on May 27, 1948 at Wangjing Tentha, Dr Nara joined CPI in 1973 after completing his medical graduate from Calcutta Homeopathy Medical College in 1971.After being elected from his home constituency of Wangjing Tentha for three terms, Dr Nara had went on to become Cabinet Minister holding various high profile portfolios like Veterinary & Animal Husbandry, Science & Technology and Environment as well as Art and Culture and Sericulture.

He is also holding the post of vice president and general secretary of various organisations at the National level apart from having participated at Commonwealth Parliament among other International conferences.
