The All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM) in a memorandum submitted today has drew the attention of the state Chief Minister, O Ibobi to translate into action their due demands including among other framing of Rules of Reservation Act 2007 and opening of IGNTU regional campus.
The issues were not new ones and have been discussed and deliberate many times at various levels urged the Chief Minister to resolve it through talks and discussion on the table setting deadline on March for positive action from the state government said.
If nothing positive action comes up before March 16, they will be compelled to think of another means including bandhs, blockades and strikes, the memorandum stated.
The students body urged the state government to initiate to frame the rules of Manipur Reservation of Vacancies in Posts and Services (for SC and SD) Act, 2007 and tabled in the ensuing state Legislative Assembly session beginning from March 17. The memorandum also asked the state government to take final decision so that the academic session of the propose Indira Gandhi National Tribal University regional campus in the state could commence from 2009-10. Regarding the setting up of the regional campus of the university, it said, state had already received approval from the registrar of the IGNTU with a condition that a minimum of 300 acres of land be donated at suitable place by the state government.
Hundreds of schools in the hills and thousands of tribal children are in unenviable position because of the callous and irresponsible attitude of the government officials, the memorandum stated alleging that state education department is treating contract basis teachers in disdain and there services are no utilized properly and also not extending their services till strike and protest.
Stating that in the recent advertisement for appointment of 79 posts of different grades for the new medical institution, the Jawaharland Nehru Institute of Medical Science, nothing was mentioned for reservation of seat or post of different grades, the memorandum also urged the chief minister not to experience another bitter the tribal of the state.
It said, the tribal has already bitter experience in RIMS, MU and CAU with regard to the reservation of the tribal people.
