Imphal, March 09 2009:
A Banana farm covering approximately an area of 250 hectare has been reportedly destroyed in a bushfire which broke out on March 3 and continued to ravage the forest area for 3-4 days in Makhan village of Gaitu Gamphazol area of Senapati district.
According to the secretary of Makhan Village Authority M Panamthinang, Banana has been the major cash crop of the village but the Banana plants have been destroyed beyond redemption in the bush fire which broke out on March 3 and continued for 3-4 days.
In this regard, the village secretary has also appealed to the authority/dept concerned to support the village with innovative and new methods to recover the loss.
