Coaching class for minority students begins

A six-month long coaching class for students from economically backward minority community has commenced from today at Azad High School, Yairipok.
The coaching class for class VI to X standard students is being organised by Manipur Minority and OBC Economic Development Society with the financial assistance of Department of Welfare for Minorities and OBC, Govt of Manipur.
Inaugural programme of the coaching class was held with Wangkhem AC MLA K Meghachandra and the host Society's Project Director Md Salauddin as the chief guest and president respectively.
Deputy Ranger (Forest department) Atau Rahman and actor Hamom Sadananda also graced the occasion as guests of honour.
Presenting the key-note address, Assistant Project Officer of the Society Md Alam Azad said purpose of the coaching class is to facilitate Muslim students, among the most economically deprived section of the society, gain access to quality education.
He also informed that under a specific plan conceived by the State Government, free coaching classes are being organised at Government schools located in Muslim dominated areas.
Noting that pass percentage of Muslim candidates in the previous class X and XII examinations had increased sharply, Alam attributed the positive trend to conduct of similar coaching classes and asserted that many of the successful students who attended the coaching classes scored high marks.
He also informed that the coaching class inaugurated today at Azad High School is the eighth of its kind as similar programme is currently underway at Sangaiyumpham, Kwakta, Irong and Jiribam areas.
Alam maintained that teaching staff members engaged in these coaching classes have been selected from among MA Gold Medallists of Manipur University.
Speaking at the occasion, MLA Meghachandra reminded that for ensuring a progressive society education is an essential component and informed that the State Government is committed to provide all possible assistance for overall development of the students.
Appealing to the students to work hard in order to become a responsible citizen of the future, he also called upon the parents/guardians for support to their wards.
