Blasts rock MG Avenue, Parijat's house

Imphal, May 22 2011:
A powerful bomb went off at Mahatma Gandhi Square, located just a stone throw away from City Police station, right in the heart of Imphal city, late evening today, even as another blast was triggered at the house of Agriculture Minister earlier in the evening today.
The bomb, suspected to have been planted by some unidentified armed persons, went off near the south-western side fencing of Mahatma Gandhi Square at around 8.30 pm today.
No one was hurt in the explosion, though the window panes of the nearby buildings including that of SBI office suffered damages.
According to information culled from the site of the incident, some bomb splinters also fell on the roof of the building of City Police Station, which is located just a stone throw away.
Police suspected that it maybe some Improvised Explosive Device (IED) .
Officers of Imphal West District Police and bomb disposal squad of the State police rushed to the spot.
On the other hand, unidentified armed persons hurled and exploded a bomb at the Nongada residence of Agriculture Minister Ph Parijat at around 8 pm today.
The bomb landed and exploded in the residential compound of the Minister.
No was hurt in this explosion.
However, the House Guards of the Minister reportedly opened fire in retaliation.
