The Hmar Students's Association General Headquarters which will hold its 51st General Assembly from December 11 to 13 at Vairengte in Mizoram is likely to discuss the "famine-like situation" in Manipur, according to officials in the student body.
Thousands, besides official delegates, from Manipur, Meghalaya, Assam, Tripura, Delhi and Mizoram are expected to take part in this assembly to "chalk out the student's future course of action in the interest of our tribe", the source said.
The crucial assembly is expected to take up various issues ranging from the "famine-like situation" in Tipaimukh sub-division to the controversial Tipaimukh Dam, said the source on condition of anonymity.
It maybe mentioned that the Hmar student body has of late become an active force to reckon with especially in regards to the controversial Tipaimukh dam.
HSA has officially made its displeasure known to Manipur government early this year over several issues concerning the Hmar tribe.
Hectic preparations are on to decide a common and acceptable agenda to be place before the Assembly, said the official.
Meanwhile, reports received from Churachandpur said that the Independent Church of India is to organise a "One Day Market for Mautam" on December 8 to help the poor farmers in Tipaimukh sub-division of Manipur.
