The 3rd Exhibition Cum Sale of Ukhrul District Community Resource Management Society (UDCRMS) under a project of International Food And Agriculture Development (IFAD) and DoNER North Eastern Council (NEC), Government of India began from today at TNL ground Ukhrul.
The exhibition would g on for two days.
Over 26 stalls including that of participants from neighbouring States like Meghalaya and Assam are being set up displaying various indigenous products and organic fruits, vegetables, handicraft, handloom, pottery, weaving, carpentry, food processing items, Candle making, soaps of natural aromatic and manual juice, etc.
The inaugural function of the exhibition was attended by Deputy Commissioner of Ukhrul Pankaj Kumar Pal as chief guest.
In his address, the Deputy Commissioner, who is also the chairman of IFAD/UDCRMS informed that UDCRM was first establish in 1997 as a legal entity and on implementing agency of the North Eastern Community Resource Management Project for upland areas.
However, the actual functioning of UDCRMS was realized only when the Development Support Team (DST) was put into place in 1999.The foremost objective of the project is to create and strengthen village based institutions and make them selfsustaining and capable of meeting their own requirements through active participation of the villagers, so that the villagers can achieve ecological balance and improve the livelihood of the people and at the same time achieving food and cash security by diversifying the economic activities of the people, he said.
The chief guest further informed that under the project initiative 146 NaRMGs have been formed in 103 villages and 689 SHGs across the District covering approximately 200 villages with 10 cluster, each cluster comprising of 10 to 15 villages.
