Central Special Force (CSF) of the UNLF seized 136 kgs of Ephedrine, which is used in manufacturing of psychotropic drugs, from Langol area this afternoon and later destroyed the same by setting it on fire somewhere in Imphal East district.
The seized drug substance is said to worth around Rs 1.36 crores in the international market.
Talking to mediapersons in this connection, a spokesperson of CSF informed that the seizure was made while being carried in a white-coloured Maruti Van from Langol area this afternoon.
Packed in 12 cardboard boxes, the Ephedrine had been lifted from a godown located in Imphal Bazar area and was intended to be smuggled to Myanmar.
Even the main accused in the drug trade could not be hauled up vehicle occupants reportedly provided a mobile phone number (9436271876) belonging to the said accused.
the spokesperson said estimated that price of I kg of Ephedrine in international market is around Rs 1 lakh.
It has been established that the seized Ephedrine belongs to one Vikram Mahendi alias Vicky Mahendi of Moreh Gate No.II.
His younger brother identified as Vikash Mahendi who stays in New Delhi is also involved in smuggling the drug ingredient through Manipur, the spokesperson said.
The spokesperson has also asked all those involved in smuggling Ephedrine to surrender to UNLF within one month and warned of serious action if they fail to do so.
