Food items seized by AMSU from hoarders and business sharks would be put up for open sale at its headquarters at 10 am tomorrow.
The ongoing anti-hoarding and anti-price hike drive of the student body will include petroleum products too.
As such, petroleum products being sold in black markets on streets at exorbitant prices would be seized starting tomorrow.
Speaking to reporters today, AMSU president Jamesbond Mangang said that its volunteers together with Meira Paibis launched a special drive against sky-rocketing prices and continued scarcity of commodities even after the blockade was lifted.
In the course of the raid, AMSU volunteers and Meira Paibis conducted raids in different godowns located in and around Mantripukhru on July 7 .
There large stocks of goods which are quite scarce in the markets were found hoarded.
Even as the godown owners were invited to AMSU office to bring an understanding, none of them have responded so far, Jamesbond said.
Saying that these godowns have been kept sealed, the AMSU president said that goods being hoarded in these godowns would be put up for open sale in view of the hardships being endured by people.
One truck bringing in food items from Dimapur to Imphal through Jessami and Ukhrul was intercepted by AMSU volunteers and Meira Paibis near 2nd MR Gate today.
The truck was carrying 125 bags of Super Fine rice of 50 Kgs each and 30 boxes of cooking oils.
All these goods would be distributed to the people by organising open sale at AMSU Hqs tomorrow at 10 am, Jamesbond said.
Rice would be distributed at the rate of 10 Kgs per person at Rs 17 per Kg.
Cooking oil would be distributed at Rs 65 per Kg.
The drive being undertaken by AMSU in collaboration with Meira Paibis would encompass petroleum products too from tomorrow.
Raids would be conducted at oil pumps and LPG dealers.
Moreover, necessary actions would also be initiated against people selling petrol and diesel in black markets on streets at exorbitant prices, Jamesbond said.
