Archbishop of Imphal, Rev Dominic Lumon DD inaugurated a relief programme organised by Diocesan Social Service Society (DSSS), Imphal, the official development wing of Archdiocese, at Muirei village of Ukhrul district today.
Rice, pulses, potatoes and yarn were distributed in the programme supported by Italian Bishops' Conference.
Director of DSSS, Fr Dominic Kanmi, Chancellor of Archbishop House, Rev Fr TS Dominic, Assistant Parish Priest of Kasom Khullen, Fr Francis, representatives of village authorities were present in the programme.
The relief programme was carried out in response to the drought faced by the farmers of Manipur in 2009 .
Speaking at the occasion, Archbishop Lumon mentioned the four important services carried out by Catholic mission in Manipur pastoral, educational, health and development.
He added that the resources of its funding partners come from Sunday collections and campaign for the third world countries.
He said that when people suffer due to natural calamities, the Church cannot remain as a mere spectator but does something positively to mitigate their suffering even though its resources are limited.
