Imphal, July 09 2010:
Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has demanded resignation of Education Minister L Jayantakumar in connection with the controversy arising out of the declaration of the results of Primary teachers.
The students body said that the Minister must be asked to step down if he fails to voluntarily resign from his post.
Expressing apprehension that the Committee which is currently probing the irregularity would not be able to bring the truth into light, DESAM also demanded for investigating it by a House Committee or an independent body.
DESAM alleged that the result for the interview held in 2006 could not be declared for these long years as Ministers, bureaucrats and other echelons of the Government were trying to get their share/quota.
Education Department is one of the most corrupted departments DESAM alleged adding that Rs 3 to 5 lakhs was asked from the candidates for the appointment of Primary teachers.
DESAM alleged that State educational institutions are unable to maintain academic atmosphere under the tenure ministership of Jayantakumar.
DESAM also expressed surprise why MLA, Ministers and Opposition MLAs are keeping mum on the issue.
The students body also asked whether they are also involved in the corrupted practice.
