Imphal, October 02 2012:
A man wearing a khudei (loin cloth) who was pulled up by some armed persons has been killed in a reported encounter with commandos but was found wearing pants when he was killed.
A police source claimed that a suspected UG cadre was killed during a shoot-out with Imphal West commandos at Lamdeng Khunou Makha Leikai (between two hills) under Lamsang police station in Imphal West district at about 5.45 this morning.
One 9 mm pistol and two hand grenades were reportedly recovered from the encounter site.
One of the hand grenades did not have a lever and it was hurled towards the commandos though it failed to explode.
Both the hand grenades have been set off safely by explosive experts of Manipur Police.

Meanwhile, the slain UG suspect has been identified as one Thiyam Romenkumar alias Rome (42) s/o late Mani of Irom Meijrao Mamang Makha Leikai under Wangoi police station in Imphal West district.
It is said that Thiyam Romenkumar was taken away by some armed persons clad in civilian clothes from his home at about 1 am today.
Taking strong exception to the killing of Romenkumar, a public meeting was held today at Irom Meijrao where a joint action committee was constituted, and the JAC has decided to launch various forms of intense agitation until the killers are booked.
Based on an allegedly false information, Romenkumar was earlier arrested in 2010 on the charge of being a cadre of KCP-MC but he was acquitted and released by Court.
Romenkumar was a brick-layer by profession.
He was taken away by the unidentified armed persons from his home when his wife and daughter were away at neighbouring Kakyai village watching a play (Leela) .
According to Romen-kumar's son Luwangngamba (13) who witnessed the whole scene, the father and the son were sleeping when two armed persons broke down the door and forcibly led away the father.
When Luwangngamba asked why his father was being led away, the armed persons shouted back saying, "Kid, this is none of your business" .
Romenkumar was wearing only a khudei and banian.
But at RIMS mortuary, he was found wearing pants and shirt.
The armed persons not only vandalised household articles of Romenkumar's family but also kicked open the door of a neighbouring house and threatened a mother-daughter duo, claimed the JAC.
The JAC has already resolved to urge the Government to book and punish the culprits involved in killing Romenkumar in a fake encounter.
On the other hand, the UG suspect slain in another reported encounter with Imphal West commandos at Takyel Khongbal, SAI road last night has been identified as one Sapam Ranjan (19) s/o Ratan of Sagolband Moirang Hanuba Leirak.
He had joined KYKL but came back home about a week ago.
