Extrajudicial Killings: Gaikhangam honours SC notice with a rider

HOME Minister Gaikhangam has expressed appreciation over the notice of the Supreme Court to the Centre and the State government on a plea for independent probe into various extra-judicial killings in Manipur.
Home Minister was speaking to media persons on the sideline of observance of International Day of Non-Violence at Congress Bhawan here today.
The observance was marked by offering of floral tributes to the photo of Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation.
While welcoming the notice of the Supreme Court for an independent probe into cases of extra-judicial killings in the state which came following a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Extrajudicial Execution Victim Families Association, Manipur (EEVFAM), the Home Minister, however, stressed on the need to understand the implication of extra-judicial killings exactly.
If all the allegations of extra-judicial killing are indeed true, those involved in the act are liable to be punished, the Home Minister observed.
Pointing out that violent method cannot bring any solution in the state, Gaikhangam appealed to all concerned to stop violence and come to the negotiating table for peaceful solution.
Only then, there could be peace in the society, he added.
Replying to a query, the Home Minister said that there are no steps taken up at the moment for any sort of talks with the valley based UG organizations in the state.
However, the issue would be taken up for discussion very soon.
