Imphal, October 02 2012:
Like in other parts of the world, Manipur too joined in the observance of International Day of Non violence to commemorate the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, proclaimed worldwide as the beacon of peace.
The observance was jointly organised by 10 NGOs at Manipur Press Club today with Padmashree RK Jhalajit Singh and president of Senior Citizens for Society Manipur N Binoy gracing the occasion as the chief guest and president respectively.
The dignitaries led the gathering in offering floral tributes at the portrait of Mahatma Gandhi, whose nonviolent movement to free India from the British rule is being revered till date.
At a symposium organised on the occasion with N Binoy as the moderator, RK Jhalajit, Prof L Sadananda and Prof Ksh Bimola Devi deliberated on the Gandhian Philosophy and its relevance in the modern world.
Hailing Gandhi as the apostle of peace and piousness, Prof Bimola stated that Gandhi's philosophy and principle of non-violence is the most logical concept.
One can attain peace of mind, only if he/she follows the inner call of conscience and acts with positive attitude towards fellow mankind, said the former Manipur University faculty member, who also reminded that Mahatma Gandhi advocated dedicated duty and service to others to achieve one's own right.
speaking at the occasion, Prof Sadananda pointed out that Gandhi's philosophy of peace is not only abstaining from physical harm to others but also restraining from causing mental disturbance to others.
Terming truth and non-violence as inseparable, and opining that even though there might be many people who are more inclined to the concept of atheism there would be none against truism.
Terming Mahatma Gandhi as the 'lord of truth', he reminded that Gandhi's non-violent movement ultimately proved the most potent weapon in winning independence for India from the British rule.
Similarly, Irom Chanu Sharmila is waging a war against the draconian AFSPA with a firm belief that her campaign based on the principle of non-violence will be the ultimate winner, acknowledged the Professor.
He also noted that movements launched by Nelson Mandela and Aung San Suu Kyi were all based on the principle of Mahatma Gandhi's truth and non-violence.
