The Chief Electoral Officer V Chibber said in a statement that necessary measures are being taken for payment of compensation to the next of kin of those killed or injured while on election duty.
Conveying State Election Department's condolence to the demise of Jeep driver Md Tomba of Kshetrigao Awang Leikai in an ambush by unknown militants while on election duty for the 14th Lok Sabha the CEO statement stated that deaths or injuries suffered by poll personnel are covered within the scheme of the Govt/ECI for payment of compensation.
It also informed that reports have been received regarding damage/loss of some vehicles requisitioned for the Lok Sabha elections 2004 and informed vehicle owners to submit applications to the concerned RO/ARO for speedy disposal.
Contending that there is no specific scheme for payment of compensation in respect of requisitioned vehicles which are damaged/destroyed during the election process the CEO clarified that in view of the genuine problems and difficulties faced by the owners reasonable compensation will be made subject to fulfilling necessary formalities such as filing of FIR, certification and valuation of the damaged/lost vehicles by competent authority, and extent of insurance cover available etc.
