President of Manipur State Congress Party (MSCP) Moirangthem hemanta Singh has resigned from the post and party to join the Indian National Congress.
Disclosing the political development to the media at Manipur Press Club today, MSCP general secretary Kh Devabrata conveyed that despite Hemanta's prolong service and dedication to the MSCP the former Minister's intimation to part ways has been approved.
Decision to relieve Hemanta from MSCP was taken in its central executive committee meeting held today at the party's office at Palace Compound, said Devbrata.
Subsequently the same meeting also approved appointment of working president RV Minthang as the party chief with treasurer M Manihar elevated to the post of working president, he informed and added that MSCP might witness major organisational changes in the near future.
M Hemanta, who was also present during the press briefing contended that his decision to join the Congress fold is in view of the forthcoming State Assembly polls as well as to honour aspiration of electorate of his constituency.
Hemanta's entry to the Congress has also been endorsed by the Congress authorities.
