In connection with the forthcoming State Assembly elections, former Prime Minister and national president of Janata Dal (secular) HD Deve Gowda would be arriving in the State to attend a party conference at Imphal.
Speaking to reporters today at the Wangkhei Ayangpalli residence of W Ibochou, national general secretary of JD (S) Kunwar Danish Ali said a meeting of State Committee of the party today resolved to convene a political conference on December 4 at Imphal in which Deve Gowda agreed to attend, Danish Ali informed.
He further disclosed that the party is planning to field 10 candidates in assembly segment within the inner Manipur Parliamentary constituency and five in outer Manipur Parliamentary constituencies.
The general secretary hinted that the JD (S) might align with other parties particularly Left parties like CPI, CPI(M) etc under an arrangement of seat sharing in the elections.
At present JD (S), CPI and CPI (M) among others are lending outside support to the UPA Govt in the Centre.
In some Assembly segments, JD (S) might have friendly contest with Left parties, Danish mentioned.
He further disclosed that Central Committee of the political outfit had sanctioned the State Committee to go together with all other parties except the Congress and the BJP in the forthcoming polls.
Noting that India has been facing big issues in such sectors like farming, foreign policy and internal security, Danish lamented nothing tangible has been done to redress the woes of farmers even as many farmers have committed suicide due to utter negligence of agriculture sector in the economic policies of both the UPA and NDA Govts.
He further accused the Union Govt for its alleged failure to contain anti-social and terrorist elements.
