Imphal, May 09:
Even as Secretary in the Union Home Ministry VK Duggal is set to arrive here on May 12 as part of his tour to the North East region to take stock of the law and order situation, the Centre has asked Chief Secretary Jarnail Singh to furnish a report on the alleged gifting away of Government vehicles to militants.
Disclosing this, a well placed source informed The Sangai Express that the Union Home Ministry has written to the State Chief Secretary to submit a report on the vehicles which were reportedly gifted away by some Departments to militants.
The instruction from the Home Ministry came ahead of the proposed visit of the Union Home Secretary.
Apart from asking an immediate reply from the Chief Secretary, the Home Ministry also mentioned one specific Government Department, which had purportedly given away its vehicles to militant outfits, added the source.
The Centre also specifically mentioned that some of the vehicles of the Department mentioned were used by individuals as their private properties before they were gifted to the militants.
On receiving the instructions from the Centre, Chief Secretary Jarnail Singh has passed on a written information to the Minister and Commissioner concerned of the said Department, further said the source.
The Chief Secretary in his message to the Commissioner demanded a detailed account of the missing vehicle and a report by tomorrow, added the source.
When The Sangai Express contacted the Commissioner concerned on the instructions from the Union Home Ministry, he evaded a direct reply but said that there might have been such an instruction.
The Commissioner maintained that he does not have the details.
Meanwhile ahead of the proposed visit of the Union Home Secretary to study the law and order situation in the State, a review meeting of the security scenario in the State was held today.
The meeting was attended by the Chief Minister, said the source adding that minute reports have been prepared to be submitted to the Union Home Secretary when he arrives on May 12.
