Lamka, November 25:
Vowing to oppose tooth and nail any attempt to impose Meetei Mayek, be it in educational institutions, hoardings or vehicle number plates, Churachandpur District Students' Union today issued a 'show cause notice' to MEELAL.
CDSU notice mentioned that MEELAL is expected to reply why, Churachandpur district is victimized by them while the anti-Mayek echo is reverberating from the entire hill districts.
It also inquired, 'Is not forcing of all vehicles plying between Imphal and Churachandpur tantamount to naked imposition of Meetei Mayek?' Detailing that it shall not tolerate any imposition of Mayek, CDSU argued that forcing all vehicles on the Imphal-Churachandpur route to display Mayek is nothing but naked imposition of Meetei Mayek.
'If the MEELAL is adamant to its unreasonable threat, the CDSU may be forced to seek affiliation to another Board as was done by other hill districts,' said the notice, adding it 'may also explore registration of all vehicles in its neighbouring State.' It also asked MEELAL to immediately withdraw threat to vehicle owners in the interest of peace and communal amity.
Acknowledging that promotion of one's own language is the birth right of every ethnic community, CDSU however contended that, any covert or overt attempt to impose it to other ethnic community is against the principle of natural justice.
Thus, MEELAL should devote its time, energy and wisdom to engage in holding of seminars, workshop etc instead of forcing vehicle owners to display Mayek or burning State library it maintained.
Newmai News Network adds: Putting its weight behind CDSU on the Meetei Mayek impasse in Churachandpur district, the Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (TKS), said it fully endorses the stand of the CDSU in its ban on the introduction of Meetei Mayek in Churachandpur district.
TKS president M Worthington in statement today, has conveyed the Tangkhul students' support and encouragement to the CDSU's ongoing agitation against Mayek introduction in the CCpur district.
"Despite the regret that some section of people and comminities are yet to prepare to swallow the fact, imposing anything upon any group, society or individual is totally unacceptable in the first place.
Secondly, anything that poses as a cultural, traditional and scholastic threat to any society needs be rejected and opposed outrightly," fumed the TKS statement.
While urging the MEELAL to understand the feelings and aspirations of the hill people, the TKS blamed the former for the pre-sent imbroglio in the CCpur district.
The Tangkhul students union stated that in the greater interest of everyone MEELAL should not plunge into hasty decisions just out of emotion.
"It would be wise on the part of anyone to be able to look and see things even across one's own horizon," advised the TKS.
However, the TKS has a word of caution saying that the CDSU may execute a good thing by being cautious and distract communalism and be persistent and relentless in sustaining the greater vision of which opposing the script may only be the beginning.
