One Krishna devotee was held for reportedly kicking at the idol of Ibudhou Chingjen Naren Pakhangba installed at Keishamthong Elangbam Leikai and was handed over to police.
Speaking to reporters today morning at the office of the Young Progressive and Athletic Club, Keishamthong Elangbam Leikai, member of the temple committee, Johnson informed that Ningthoujam Premkumar alias Gulapi (28) of the same locality entered the shrine of the Ibudhou and kicked the idol at about 10.15 pm yesterday.
Even if the extremely blasphemous act perpetrated by the Krishna devotee was done at the instigation of some bigot elements, Johnson appealed to all concern not to indulge in highly condemnable acts in future.
He further appealed to the people to be cautious of such religious fanatics.
In connection with the incident, the temple committee have resolved to slap a fine of Rs 20,000 against Premkumar and to hand over the accused to police.
It may be mentioned here that Lai Haraoba festival for Ibudhou Chingjen Naren Pakhangba commenced on June 17.
