Imphal, June 20:
Judicial Magistrate First Class, Imphal is likely to begin its trial on a criminal case filed under the recently enacted Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2006 on June 26 as the Court has sought reports on the matter from the Protection Officer concerned by the same date.
The Court in its recent hearing, asked the Protection Officer to submit a detailed report on the matter by June 26.It also asked to give the list of service provider on the matter.
This followed a complaint case filed by one non-Manipuri housewife namely Devjani Pathak (33) of Khoyathong Road under the Act.
Pathak charged her brothers-in-law, Brajabihari Sharma Pathak and Biplab Sharma Pathak with harassing and mentally torturing her.
Having taken direct cognisance of her complaint, the Court subsequently issued non-bailable warrant of arrest against the duo and the police arrested the two brothers and produced them before the Court on June 12.They were, however, released on bail the following day.
This is the second case filed under the Act in the State, the first being filed at Thoubal.
Mention may be made that the State Government has already appointed eight Protection Officers under the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence, 2006 for effective implementation of the same.
