Imphal, June 20:
Imphal Municipal Council (IMC) has clarified that it had not issued any order for giving the contract for collecting toll tax and parking fee on behalf of the Council to any underground organisations.
Reacting to the news
report published in the June 20 edition of this paper, officials of the Imphal Municipal Council (IMC) clarified that no order
had been ever issued in favour of any underground organisation to grant the contract for collecting the toll tax and the parking charges.
However, contract had been signed with various private agencies after the system was privatised.
Moreover, the orders
issued on April 21 and 25 this year respectively for appointment of agents for collecting toll tax and parking fee have
been already nullified in accordance to a resolution of the Council during a meeting on May 1 this year, they informed.
The officials also refuted that report that the various UG groups have demanded 10 percent of the total amount collected as taxes from the Council, though there is demand from other fund.
As to the alleged pressures from various groups of people who identified themselves as activists of UNLF, PREPAK, KYKL and PLA, the IMC officials clarified that there is no instances of any pressure from these UG groups on the Council, those groups of people have only misused the names of the underground outfits.
The report of demanding Rs 100 every day and imposition of Rs 500 as fine on the Council for allegedly closing down the toll posts and allowing collection of tax surreptitiously is also totally baseless and there is no such thing, the officials further asserted.
