Imphal, November 19:
The Kuki Students Organisation, Sadar Hills (KSO-SH) has thrown its weight behind the All Tribal Students' Union Manipur's ongoing economic blockade along the two National Highways leading to Manipur.
KSO, Sadar Hills information and publicity secretary Paoneilal Khongsai has urged all the goods transporters to stay away from the two National Highways as long as the ATSUM sponsored agitation is in force on the two lifelines of Manipur.
The KSO-SH leader warned the goods transporters saying that defying the directives of the tribal student bodies would amount to inviting trouble.
Paoneilal Khongsai further said that damaging the goods transporters along the NH-39 and NH-53 will be the sole activity while resorting to agitation.
ATSUM has called a one week long economic blockade along the national highways since the midnight of November 13 and now it has been extended for another one week beginning today.
The apex tribal students body of Manipur has been pursuing a number of demands which include the implementation of reservation policy for the STs of the State, extension of pension benefits to district council employees with modification orders, and to convert some grant-in-aid schools and the extension of the service of teachers appointed on contract basis upto March next year.
