Six CRPF personnel including an ASI were hurt in an ambush launched by unidentified UG cadres at Sabal Leikai near the turning point at Kabowakching under Nambol police station at around 2.15 pm today.
Meanwhile, the Assistant Chief of RPF's Department of Communication and Publicity informed the press that the ambush was laid by the outfit's armed wing PLA.
He further conveyed that all the PLA cadres involved in the ambush have returned to their camp safe and sound.
The injured personnel belong to 27th CRPF posted at Chothe village of Bishnupur district.
It is reported that the CRPF personnel were going to CRPF Group Centre, Langjing and they came under attack from the UG cadres when their vehicle (bus) reached the turning point at Nambol Sabal Leikai.
The UG cadres used a Tata Sumo which was parked with its front turning towards the road to Kabowakching.
They attacked the CRPF vehicle sitting in the rear of the Sumo.
After firing several rounds towards the CRPF personnel, the UG cadres fled from the scene in the same Tata Sumo driving in high speed towards the road to Kabowakching.
The Sumo used by the UG cadres was found turned upside down from the paddy field of Kabowakching Manning Leikai and has been picked up by police.
A lathode bomb and four empty cases of AK-47 rounds were found inside the Sumo.
According to some farmers who were harvesting at the time, the Sumo turned turtle as the driver lost control and fell in the paddy field due to the high speed.
About six youths coming in the vehicle and armed with automatic rifles made their escape towards the western paddy field, they conveyed.
The injured CRPF personnel are identified as ASI DB Roy (37) of Assam (hurt in the left face), Head Constable Surendra Singh (37) of Haryana ( hurt in the right fingers), constable Bora (26) of Assam (hurt in foot), Head Constable Binod Pratap (28) of Kushinagar, UP (left thigh) and Head Constable Vijay Yadav (37) of Maharashtra (hurt in the back).
All of them were treated at RIMS and their conditions are said to be out of danger.
On receiving information of the ambush, police commandos and personnel of 22 Maratha LI rushed to the spot and advanced towards Waroiching in pursuit of the UG cadres.
