Imphal, November 19:
Out-rightly rejecting the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with the Chief Minister yesterday as contradictory to the demands being made, Joint Action Committee Against the Brutal Killing of Ningthoujam Binoy alias Khaiba Singh has called a 48-hour State-wide general strike with effect from midnight today.
Announcing this in a statement, secretary of JAC Yaimabi Devi has appealed to all NGOs, Meira Paibis and other social organisations to extend their support to the general strike being called.
She has also warned that those who defy the general strike should themselves be held responsible for any eventuality.
Announcing its decision to back and support the 48-hour general strike being called by the JAC with effect from midnight today in connection with killing of Binoy by police commandos, the Working Committee of the Apunba Lup has charged Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh of holding the women volunteers of JAC hostages and forcing them to sign their signatures on the MoU yesterday.
The intention of the Chief Minister was to mislead the people on the issue, a statement signed jointly by assistant co-ordiantors of the Apunba Lup Khagembam Basanta Kumar and Jiten Yumnam said.
Charging the Chief Minister of trying to shield the guilty police commandos, the Apunba Lup wondered whether the Chief Minister is also one of the conspirators involved in the killing of Binoy or not.
