The State Government has been processing the reservation policy for Muslims so that the policy can be announced before the code of conduct for the 9th Vidhan Sabha elections comes into force, said Chief Minister O Ibobi while addressing a Congress workers' conference at Keirampalli Kachin, Kyamgei today.
Ibobi also claimed that the Congress party is the only political party in the State which works with equal emphasis at grassroots level, both in the hills and valley.
The main points of the Congress party's election manifesto for the forthcoming elections would be to provide extra advantage to the backward and minority sections of the society in education and employment, disclosed Ibobi.
Following the establishment of Minority Commission, the State Government has been working to implement reservation policy for economically backward classes and minorities of the State.
How much percentage would be reserved for Muslims and how much for other minorities would be announced before the publication of code of conduct for the 9th Assembly elections, assured the Chief Minister.
Today's conference organised by Keirao Block Congress Committee was presided by MOBC Minister Md Allaudin Khan.
MLA Ranjit and Speaker Dr Maniruddin Sheikh also attended the conference.
On the other hand, a Congress workers' conference organised by Andro Block Congress Committee and Andro Development Committee at Tulihal play ground today resolved to ensure success of social worker Th Shyamkumar in the Assembly elections from Andro constituency.
Th Shyamkumar is currently under police custody after he was arrested by Delhi police on September 2 from Delhi airport along with two leaders of the proscribed UNLF.
The political conference organised with the permission of MPCC was attended by many office bearers of MPCC, Congress Ministers and MLAs.
However, MPCC president Gaikhangam and Chief Minister O Ibobi were not present in the Congress workers' conference.
At the conference Th Shyamkumar was represented by his wife Babita.
A large number of people coming to attend the meeting also held festoons reading "We support Shyam kumar".
They also urged to give Congress ticket to Shyamkumar.
While describing various activities undertaken by Shyamkumar for the welfare of people, Congress MLAs and Ministers addressing the conference appealed to vote Congress candidate.
