Known for his literary work Imphal Turel Mapalgi Rajkumari, BM Maisnamba (Brajamani Maisnamba) has been selected for the first ever Manipur State Award for Literature 2008
.
The annual literary award was instituted by the State Government starting from this year.
Education Minister L Jayantakumar named BM Maisnamba for the first Manipur State Award for Literature before media persons today.
The award which is the first of its kind in the field of literature would be big moral upliftment for the literary circle of Manipur.
The award carrying a cash prize of Rs one lakh and a citation will be given to oustanding writers every year.
BM Maisnamba was named for the prestigious award for his novel Ningthemnubi.
The novel is based on the royal life in Langthabal Palace.
The novel explores the human relationship based on the life within a royal palace.
63 year old BM Maisnamba so far authored 11 novels, two poetry collections and one compendium of lyrical poetry.
Recognising his contribution in the field of literature, BM Maisnamba was conferred with State Kala Akademi Award in 2006, Sahitya Akademi Award in 2007 and Jamini Sunder Guha Gold Medal Award 2009 .
He is currently general secretary of Manipur Sahitya Parishad Imphal.
Declaring the recipient of the first ever Manipur State Award for Literature in his office chamber today, Minister Jayantakumar said that the State Government has been working to promote literary activities in the State after formulating the Manipur State Literature Award Rules 2008 .
