Imphal, February 15 2009:
In yet another interesting pre-poll drama of political alliances and counter alliances, it is likely that MPP may join hands with the NCP for the Lok Sabha elections.
Earlier, the MPP and the BJP lobbied for a tie up for the said poll but the two parties parted ways following a disagreement on seat sharing.
A meeting of the MPP central committee held today at its office with party president Dr L Chandramani in the chair deliberated on which parties the MPP should make alliance with for the Lok Sabha elections set to be held in April/May this year.
During the meeting attended by MPP MLAs and important members of the central committee, Dr Chandramani said that all attempts of the MPP to forge any alliance with the BJP for the Parliamentary elections have been stopped.
He disclosed that talks with 'like-minded' NCP towards fighting the Lok Sabha elections jointly under a mutual understanding has been progressing.
Former Union Minister Th Chaoba appealed to MPP political workers to work sincerely with dedication so as to ensure victory of the MPP candidate.
Notably, MPP has already hinted that Prof N Mohendro may be its lone chosen candidate.
Currently, hectic negotiations are going on among leaders of MPP, NCP and NPP to strike an understanding on the arrangement of supporting MPP candidate in Inner Manipur Parliamentary constituency and working together for the consensus candidate of NCP and NPP in Outer Parliamentary Constituency.
It is likely that MPP leaders may be going to Delhi soon to talk further with NCP leaders on the proposed political alliance.
MPP will discuss election details at its people's conference scheduled for March 5 .
