Imphal, February 15 2009: Hundreds of five locals on Sunday staged sit-in protest by blocking halfway on the inter district Mayai Lambi road at Wangoi some 20 km away south of Imphal decrying explosion of bomb at a house of an individual of the locality and causing panic to the people.

Suspected militants exploded a bomb at the front courtyard of the resident of one Sagolsem Achouba located only some 80 meter away from the Wangoi police station on the side Mayai Lambi road last at around 7.15 pm.

The explosion caused no casualty but it has panic the people of the area as it was in the thickly populated areas.

The blast took place at the courtyard which is used as work shed of bamboo product like mad and others are making.

The bomb exploded had the workers at the work shed left the place for depositing the equipments, they use after taking hand-off for the day, local report said.

Not satisfied with the act of the suspected militants and fear of repeating the same act, residents of the area gathered since last night and protected the house the whole night last night.

Today, locals of five adjoining localities gathered the house where the blast took place and staged a sit-in protest decrying the act which they considered carried out by the militants who are actively engaging in the extortion of money from the public.

Under the aegis of the recently formed local body called People Protection Committee, a public meeting was convened at the same spot where the protest was carried out and condemned the act of the miscreants which amount to cause panic and fear to the people.

The meeting also reportedly decided to ban entry of non-local people in the locality at the night time.
