Representatives of the co-operative societies today revealed that loanees do not want to repay the loan amount because of difficulties and money spent while seeking the loan.
Leaders of the co-operative societies poured down their grievances while availing loans during the programmes held at Toubungkhok and Ninthemleia Laibung in Imphal west district as part of the 56th All India Co-operative Week observance organized by the Manipur State Co-operative Union in association with district co-operative office, Imphal west, Zonal Assistant Registrar Co-operative Society Limited, Co-operative Society, sagoltongba, Manipur Apex Housing Co-operative Society Limited and Th Birchandra Football Academy, Youbungkhok.
Speaking at the programme, H Premabati, secretary of Meisnam Maning Women Co-operative Society relating grievances faced while availing loans said that for availing loan, one has to run from pillar to posts.
Even if the loan payment cleared after running from pillar to post, part of the loan cut down at the source.
Considering the grievances and difficulties faced in availing the loan, loanee did not want to repay the loan.
Due to marketing problem, weaver who set up looms could not get the benefits of availed loan.
So, drafting a marketing policy by the authorities also needed.
The secretary said that in 2005, the society provided loan amounting to Rs 70,000 to the weavers apart from Rs 2000 each to individual weavers.
Authority provided threads of worth around Rs 6000 saying that the cost of the threads is Rs 10,000 which would be repaid as money to the authority.
In this condition, who will want to repay the loan amount, she asked.
Secretary of the Wangdombi Thangjam Leikai Weavers' Co-operative Scoeity, Meinam Mema said, some 18 year back, the society availed loan amounting to around Rs 4 lakh.
Out of the loan amount authority provided in kinds amounting to Rs 2 lakh which was not suited with the item given.
As such they have no willingness to repay the loan.
