Imphal, November 17 2009:
An order of the Gauhati High Court, Imphal Bench issued by Justice T Nandakumar and Justice K Meruno has directed the submission of progress report and counter-affidavit of police's probe on the killing of Chungkham Sanjit at Khwairamband Bazar in a reported encounter by November 20 .
The order has been issued in compliance with an earlier order of the Court for submission of progress report and counter affidavit of police's probe into the incident as per a case filed with the High Court by mother of Sanjit, Ch (O) Taratombi on October 29 last.
The respondents were said to have pleaded to grant time for submission of progress report and counter affidavit after the hearing of the case.
They were said to have stated that the case investigation is available with them.
After hearing the plea, the notice has been issued today.
The respondents of the case petitioned by the mother of Sanjit, Taratombi, were Chief Secretary, DGP, SP of Imphal West, and OC of City Police Station.
Taratombi's councilor was Advocate Khaidem Mani.
Meanwhile, an order issued by the Justice BP Kataki has stayed the proceedings of the case taken up by the Manipur Human Rights Commission (MHRC) on the Khwairamband incident of July 23 till December 8 .
The order said the case will be imposed on December 9 in the interest of public importance.
Both the parties concerned may submit related documents on the day.
The Manipur government was represented today by Advocate General, N Koteshore and Senior Government Advocate Th Ibohal.
MHRC was represented by Senior Advocate I Lalit, the councilors of MHRC members RK Rajendra and Ng Nongyai were Advocate Meihoubam Rakesh and Advocate P Tomcha respectively.
