Imphal, November 17 2009:
Month long campaign for free discrimination and barrier free to people with disabilities organized by the Handicapped Development Foundation reached Bishnupur district where the campaign to stop torture, atrocities to them conducted at Chingkhei Laisoi.
A function held in connection with campaign was graced by vice-chairperson of the Imphal Municipal Council, N Ragumani, chairman of the foundation Dr Ch Rupachandra as president and councilor of the Ward no.7 Ch Joykumar as guest of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Ragumani asked what had done by the government for the handicapped people.
If the government assist them and the society encourage them in the work he or she could do, then handicapped people can live equally in the society.
In this key note address of the month long barrier free campaign, vice president of the foundation Gopenshwor said handicapped should not be look down by the society.
Instead of suppressing them, they should be allowed to expose their ability and send to schools to
impart education.
According to the organizers, they are planning to erect a big hording at North AOC in order to draw attention of the people in general and government officials in particular and to address their grievances.
