The Chief Minister of Manipur, Shri Okram Ibobi Singh has congratulated the two Manipuri women boxers, Mary Kom and L Sarita Devi, on their selection for the prestigious national awards, namely Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna and Arjuna Award.
In a statement, Shri O Ibobi Singh said, the honour accorded to the two outstanding women boxers of the state is a recognition by the Government of India of the excellence of the Manipuris in the field of games and sports.
He said, the awards will further encourage the sportspersons of the state.
Meanwhile, the President of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC), Gaikhangam has also lauded the two women boxers who have brought laurels to the state.
The selection of the two boxers for the most enviable national awards has proved that the potentials of the Manipuri youths in the field of games and sports are par excellence.
Youth Affairs and Sports Minister, N Biren also congratulated the two women boxers on their selection for the nation's highest sports awards 'Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna' and 'Arjuna Award' respectively.
Minister Biren said in his congratulatory message that the achievements and recognitions of the two sportspersons will help the state produce more talented sportspersons and towards building a peaceful society.
