The United Committee Manipur (UCM) has distributed 140 sprayer pumps and around 3000 saplings of banana tree to selected beneficiaries under the sponsorship of the Agriculture, and Horticulture & Soil Conservation departments at its office located at Lamphelpat today.
The distribution function was attended by UCM president Yumnamcha Dillipkumar, Mission Director of Horticulture, Khuraijam Ratankumar, and the EE of the Agriculture department, Konthoujam Manoranjan as the presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, the Director Mission of the Horticulture department, Khuraijam Ratankumar said the Horticulture department is making an effort to assist and lend a hand to the genuine cause of the farmers.
He urged the farmers to engage in their works with integrity.
K Manoranjan extolled the farmers to yield more produces while also urging the farmers to minimise their dependence on chemical fertilizers to enhance productivity.
He said the use of excessive chemicals is detrimental to human being.
UCM president said emphasis should be given on agriculture sector for sustenance as 70 percent of the total population of the state depends on agriculture for livelihood.
He also said that food must be stockpiled to face any eventuality next year due to minimal and insufficient monsoon rains which is likely to result in poor harvest.
