Imphal, May 20 2011:
The 18th Indo-Myanmar sectoral level meeting is scheduled to be held at Kalemao in Myanmar from June 9 to 10 to discuss various bilateral issues concerning the welfare and development of the two neighbouring countries.
Considered to be one of the most important and rare occasions for the officials of the two countries to share their views over the table, the meeting is expected to cover various issues ranging from law and order in the border area to border fencing the Manipur sector of the International boundary.
Another important issue that is expected to be taken up for serious discussion is smuggling of wildlife parts and products through the porous border.
Assam Rifles have been confiscating consignments of wildlife parts and products meant for being smuggled inside Myanmar during search operation along the Imphal-Moreh Road very frequently.
Joint Secretary of Union Ministry of Home Affairs (in-charge of North East) Sambhu Singh would lead the Indian delegation which would include representatives of Government of Manipur during the meeting with their Myanmarese counterparts.
