Imphal, May 20 2011:
Government will spend over Rs.32 crore in the proposed widening of some portions of the three state highways and one national highway for which the state cabinet had recently decided to take over land to be affected in the process by direct purchase of land.
In the absence of the state's own land acquisition policy, to acquire land by government is a time consuming affair.
To overcome the inconveniences, government has decided to purchase land required for widening roads in Imphal areas.
In one of the cabinet meetings of the SPF government held on May 4, it was agreed in principle to directly purchase land by government authority for taking up certain projects.
The value of the land to be acquired will be based on the assessment made by the Deputy Commissioner concerned as per the decision.
The state government also decided to widen the stretch of NH 150 from North AOC to Minuthong and NH 39 from North AOC to Khongnang Ani Karak.
The stretch will be widened by 15 meters on both sides from the median, an official source said.
Further, the state highways, Watham Leirak to RIMS Traffic Rotary via Fishery Crossing (1.5 km), Khoyathong to Lila Sing Khongnang-khong (1 km) and Maharani Bridge to Khoyathong (1 km) will also be widened as per the cabinet decision.
The widening process will involve land acquisition and demolition of structures on affected pattaland.
As the works are to be handled by the state PWD, the value of standing properties on the affected pattaland is to be assessed by the authority of the department in consultation with the DC.
Thereafter, a proposal is to be placed before the cabinet for consideration and approval.
The cabinet decision would be applied in the acquisition of land for widening of these national highways and as such PWD has assessed the value of the land to be acquired in the road widening process and standing properties to be affected .
As per the assessment, a total amount of Rs.6,82,13,32,00 would be spent in widening three state highways while another Rs.32,73,70,076 would be spent in paying compensations for the standing properties as per assessment reports of the DCs of Imphal West and Imphal East district.
Rs.2,90,74,406 would be spent in the acquisition of land for widening Watham Leirak to RIMS Traffic Rotary via fishery Crossing (1.5 km) where the compensation to be paid for the standing properties has been assessed at Rs.9,40,13,210 .
For the widening of the state highway from Khoyathong to Lila Sing Khongnang-khong (1 km), the land value and standing properties values are respectively Rs.1,49,60,687 and ' 6,67,80,930 and for the widening of Maharani Bridge to Khoyathong (1 km), the amounts are Rs.1,83,13,686 and Rs.6,67,80,930 respectively.
For the widening of NH 39 from North AOC to Khongnang Ani Karak, the land value has been assessed at Rs.1,13,72,553 and that of standing properties at Rs.1,25,09,811 .
